Now maybe I will have incentive to update more than once a fortnight!

It’s been a while since I arbitrarily updated the look of this blog. I finished with midterms today, so I figured I deserved a little treat.

Recently, I have wanted to embrace the minimalism of blogging. At some point, blogrolls, RSS links, Tweets, and ever-expanding archives can take their toll on a mind already overloaded with information and stimuli. So, now I have none of these things. It is somewhat liberating.

Anyhow, thanks goes to jamesyps and the Blue Basic WordPress theme from which this design was derived. I guarantee you that the coding behind this Web site will not pass ANY sort of validation, but come on – in this day and age we have browsers to make up for our shortcomings. Also, the nifty icons at the top of this page come from Komodo Media. I have neither the time nor the ability to make anything look that sleek in 256 (16×16) pixels.

I’m sure lots of things still need to be fiddled with, but I am happy enough with what we have to call it a night.

(And to think – lots of my journalism major friends get to do this all the time for class! But they have to use Macs. Poor souls.)

I needed a change of scenery

Another year, another redesign.

I’ve been feeling ultra-creative (read: nerdy) lately, so I decided to give the old blog a bit of a makeover. I told myself that I would do it during Spring Break, and now that I’ve been home in Pinellas County for five hours, I figured I would get started.

The current theme is based on Naruto Strikes Back, and I’m still fiddling with some things. Overall, I very much enjoy the warmer colors.

The New Jan Brady!

For lack of one solid, lengthy, and coherent idea, here’s a bunch of little things:

  • For some reason, the Web site was acting up for about a month. I kept putting it off and putting it off, but I decided to fix it. Hooray for WordPress themes and the spare time to play around with the code therein.
  • I gave a homeless man playing the accordion a dollar today outside of the grocery store. I usually don’t do that kind of thing, but Dude has no eyes. So, me being the double-eyeball-having kind of guy I am, I felt guilty. On second thought, though, I could have just taken all the money from his jar. Dude has no eyes.
  • Final exams are few and far between. This is nice, but it is also kind of inconvenient, since I’m sitting here like a lump for days at a time while I wait for the next test to start.
  • I tried to learn the mandolin. Apart from a few songs and chords, that endeavor is playing second fiddle to my new passion: weightlifting. I originally thought that playing the mandolin would attract girls. Now, they tell me it’s lifting weights. I’m just waiting for that to go out of style and make way for a new pastime. Sort of like the blessed transition from baseball cards to Pogs. (By the way, I know I am very weak. I can curl 40 whole pounds!)
  • I gave up drinking soda, and am proud to say that as of today, it’s been four glorious, decaffeinated weeks. I am dying to have an orange soda.
  • So, there you have it. If you find any navigational problems with the new layout, shoot me an email.
